Ali Torabi Haghighi's Bio:
Ali Torabi Haghighi is a Professor of Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering (WE3) research unit at the University of Oulu, where he leads the Hydrosystems Engineering and Management research group.
His research focuses on lake and river flow regimes, dam and hydropower operation, the Water–Energy–Food Nexus, sustainable and resilient water resources systems, remote sensing and digitalization in water resources, cold-climate hydrology, smart irrigation, and environmental flow.
Dr. Torabi Haghighi has extensive academic and professional experience in water resources engineering. Before and alongside his academic career, he served as a visiting researcher at the University of California, Irvine, and held several engineering and managerial roles related to dam and irrigation projects, dam rehabilitation, and dam stability, monitoring, and operation.
He has supervised doctoral and master’s students across Finland and internationally, and his teaching integrates academic theory with practical engineering experience in areas such as river engineering, cold-climate hydrology, hydrology, dam engineering, and integrated water resources management.
Dr. Torabi Haghighi’s research has received more than 7,900 citations, reflecting his broad scholarly impact in water resources and environmental engineering.
